The news of the closure of Diablo Canyon Power Plant is obviously hugely consequential for our community. We do feel fortunate, however, that we have enough time to prepare for the inevitable difficult impacts the closure will cause to our community’s economy.
Personally, I feel confident not only in our community’s resilience but in our commitment to growing an even stronger economy. I have led the Economic Vitality Corporation’s (EVC) Economic Development Project and have spearheaded the County’s partnership with the Cal Poly HotHouse. These are but two examples of our commitment to further economic development.
It will take much work and much collaboration to continue to create the kind of jobs that we need and that we lose eventually from Diablo Canyon. But I’m very optimistic that we are headed in the right direction.
